Initiatives and Achievements
Nippon Steel Carbon Neutral Vision 2050
Nippon Steel adopts our own initiative “Nippon Steel Carbon Neutral Vision 2050,” as a part of our widespread efforts toward achieving a decarbonized society. We will consider and implement various measures as a top priority management issue.
Breakthrough technology development to decarbonize steelmaking processes
In order to achieve carbon neutrality, we are also working in collaboration with the public and private sectors to develop ultra-innovative technologies, such as the hydrogen reduction steelmaking technology development project, which will enable zero CO2 emissions during steel production
Responding to Climate Change
~Governance·Management of climate-related risks·Target and results~
In order to conduct business in a sustained manner, we are working to reduce the impact of climate change through initiatives to reduce CO2 emissions throughout the supply chain.
Our strategy for climate-related risks and opportunities
~TCFD scenario analysis~
In conducting the scenario analysis, we have used the scenarios of the IEA as a base, and evaluated medium- to long-term risks and opportunities up to 2050, by referring to the IEA’s 1.5°C scenario (NZE2050) and the below 2°C scenario (B2DS) in transitional aspects and the 4°C scenario (NPS) in the aspects of physical impacts.
Efforts to reduce Scope 3 emissions
We are working to reduce not only the energy-related CO2 emissions generated during our manufacturing process, but also emissions throughout our supply chain.
ECO PROCESS
Nippon Steel is committed to reduction of the environmental impact created by production activities and manufacturing processes. We make continuous efforts in all processes to not waste limited resources and energy.
Eco-Products™
Nippon Steel Group's products contribute to reducing resource and energy consumption and CO2 emissions by improving the efficiency, reducing weight, and extending the life of equipment, thereby mitigating the environmental impact.
ECO SOLUTION
Nippon Steel is participating in many energy-saving and environmental initiatives in Japan and overseas. For example, we work with the World Steel Association and directly with countries such as China and India.
