It is the world-first sour-resistant tubing and casing with a maximum strength of 125 ksi class (yield strength of 862 Mpa class) and was implemented by NIPPON STEEL in 2003. It has enabled development of a high-corrosion-resistance well of 4,000 to 6,000 meters class, which has not been conventionally achieved.

It is a joint technology that has enabled gas-tightness without using thread compounds, normally used at connections, by forming a solid film at the inner surface of the thread and the pipe end thread. This has eliminated the need for cleaning and application of grease, and enabled the development of clean oil/gas that does not discharge environmentally hazardous substances such as lead or zinc contained in thread compounds.

Ultra-thick high-strength steel for jack-up rigs

The jack-up rig is a drilling system that places the legs on the seabed during mining, lifts the platform to a height not affected by waves, lowers the platform to sea level, floats it for movement, and tows it with the legs lifted. Since the legs support a very large weight, ultra-thick high-strength steel is used.

To meet these needs, we have developed low-temperature-toughness H-shaped steel for ocean structures that can keep sufficient toughness up to -40°C. It has already been used for multiple projects.

With a constant beam height and beam width, the design was simplified and efficient processing was achieved. With a number of size selections and thin webs, steel weight can be reduced further than normal H-shaped steel. A size of 1,000 mm maximum in beam height and 400 mm maximum in beam width is available. This can be used for large structures.

It is a steel material with addition of 1% chromium to improve corrosion resistance in the ocean. With the addition of chromium, the rust layer on the surface prevents entry of oxygen into the base metal. Progress of corrosion can be half or less compared to normal steel. It is suitable for seawater piping, gas coolers specified for seawater, and ocean structures.
