Our steel materials are used in the whole supply chain of energy, such as natural gas, from excavation to transportation to storage to consumption.
The following steel materials are working all over the world: oil well pipes used for resource development, line pipes for product transportation, thick plates for storage tanks, and special pipes used at petrochemical plants and power generation plants.

Since oil well pipes for mining are exposed to very harsh environments, NIPPON STEEL has developed a super-high-strength high-alloy tubing excellent in corrosion resistance.
In addition, we have improved the production efficiency of natural gas and established a production technology for a large-diameter long-size high-alloy tubing that reduces the gas field development cost.

Gas-tightnesst connections without damage under harsh environments is required. VAM™21, which shows stable performance even in natural gas fields of great depth, has been used for development of the North Sea gas field. It is highly acclaimed as the world's highest-level premium connections.

It is the world-first sour-resistant tubing and casing with a maximum strength of 125 ksi class (yield strength of 862 Mpa class) and was implemented by NIPPON STEEL in 2003. It has enabled development of a high-corrosion-resistance well of 4,000 to 6,000 meters class, which has not been conventionally achieved.

It is a joint technology that has enabled gas-tightness without using thread compounds, normally used at connections, by forming a solid film at the inner surface of the thread and the pipe end thread. This has eliminated the need for cleaning and application of grease, and enabled the development of clean oil/gas that does not discharge environmentally hazardous substances such as lead or zinc contained in thread compounds.

Our high-strength line pipe with high reliability in quality can allow high-pressure/highly-efficiency transportation of mining energy including development of oil/gas fields in deep-sea areas and reduces the pipeline construction cost.

Our tendon pipe, which is excellent in weldability, strength, availability of heavy wall thickness, high dimensional accuracy, and fatigue resistance has been acclaimed by many users including oil majors for its high safety and reliability in quality. It has been widely used for world-wide TLP (tension leg platform used for development of deep-sea oil/gas fields).
