Nippon Steel Corporation
Nippon Steel Corporation (hereafter "Nippon Steel") has been awarded the Good Design Award 2021 by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP) for our Designing Titanium TranTixxii®. It is the world’s first non-ferrous metal material to receive this award.
Designing Titanium TranTixxii® is a material that combines titanium's characteristics of extended service life (over 100 years), light weight, high strength, and exceptional environmental performance with the multi-faceted beauty (color and tone) emitted by the material itself through unique technologies to control the light and color of the material surface. Our unique technology (world first and found only at Nippon Steel) minimizes changes over the years and provides longevity and beautiful colors to achieve a "timeless beauty."
Furthermore, TranTixxii® boasts of more than a hundred different of types which include various combination of surface finishes and colors. Along with color finishes that offer a wide variety of tones, we have developed matte finishes that suppress metallic luster, subdued and textured finishes, finishes featuring various crystal patterns of many sizes on the material surface, a glow and luster that exceeds that of "gold," and finishes that offer supreme durability.
These technological innovations have been playing an active role in a wide variety of processes and applications, from exteriors (roofs/walls) of large-scaled structures to relatively small industrial products such as watches and fixtures, along with high-performance sports cars (automobile mufflers) and art pieces. Additionally, the elevated level of expression made possible by TranTixxii® has received much praise from architects and designers, as it realizes the traditional beauty of shrines and temples cultivated over countless years alongside up-and-coming, modern, and cutting-edge product design.
A program dedicated to improving our lifestyles and society through design, the Good Design Award and its G Mark symbol have become widely known since the program's launch in 1957.
Nippon Steel is in constant pursuit of the world's best technologies and manufacturing capabilities. We continuously contribute to social development while staying compliant with the Sustainable Development Goals, or the SDGs ("12.
