Nippon Steel Wins Two Categories at the World Steel Association’s Steelie Awards 2026
Nippon Steel Corporation
Nippon Steel Corporation (“Nippon Steel”) has won awards in two categories, Excellence in process and product innovation and Excellence in sustainability, at the 17th Steelie Awards organized by the World Steel Association (worldsteel). The Steelie Awards are international honors that recognize worldsteel member companies for outstanding contributions to the advancement of the global steel industry. Winners are selected through award-specific evaluation processes and assessed by independent expert panels using agreed criteria. The 2026 award recipients were announced on October 12, 2026, at an event held in conjunction with worldsteel’s general assembly in New Delhi, India.

In the Excellence in process and product innovation category, Nippon Steel’s highly corrosion-resistant Zn-Al-Mg-Si alloy-plated steel sheet “SuperDymaTM GB” received the award. The product eliminates the need for post-painting processes through its proprietary color post-treatment technology, contributing to simplified manufacturing processes and reduced CO2 emissions.
In the Excellence in sustainability category, Nippon Steel’s “Sea forest creation project” was recognized. The project utilizes steelmaking by-products, including steel slag, to restore seaweed beds and improve coastal ecosystems. It has been implemented at more than 80 locations across Japan and was highly praised for its contributions to biodiversity restoration, the creation of blue carbon (including obtaining certified blue carbon credit), and regional revitalization.
This marks the first time that Nippon Steel has received a Steelie Award. Furthermore, among the six award categories in 2026, Nippon Steel was the only company to win awards in multiple categories. These achievements reflect the global recognition of the company’s technological capabilities and its commitment to sustainability within the steel industry.
