Church Clad in Nippon Steel's Designing Metal “TranTixxii” Completed in South Korea
Nippon Steel Corporation
Nippon Steel Corporation’s designing titanium “TranTixxiiTM ” has been adopted as the exterior cladding material for the Full Gospel Seongbuk Church (below, the Church), which has been rebuilt in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, Republic of Korea, and construction has now been completed. This is a branch church of the Yoido Full Gospel Church, which has been recognized as having the world’s largest congregation, and this marks the first use of titanium at any church in the Yoido Full Gospel Church Group, which has numerous branches. The Church’s exterior is constructed using 2,400 square meters of flat-lock cladding, using approximately 4.3 tons of titanium.

Mr. Zeho Song of EZER Architects, the architect of the Church, was deeply impressed by the technology of TranTixxii and strongly desired to use titanium in a project he was involved in. With great determination, he made its adoption for the Church a reality. The exterior of the Church is entirely clad in a silver roll-dull finish that is TranTixxii’s signature design, and when illuminated by sunlight, TranTixxii reflects natural light and gives off a distinctive brilliance, giving the Church a striking presence as a local landmark.
The Church, along with other religious buildings around the world is expected to remain in use for long periods of time, and face challenges in maintaining their appearance while withstanding rain, wind, ultraviolet radiation, and other climatic conditions, as well as in controlling the maintenance costs associated with repairs. Nippon Steel believes that in addition to its high aesthetic quality, its TranTixxii product offers excellent corrosion resistance and durability, and that these properties can help address challenges associated with the exteriors of churches and other religious buildings.
Nippon Steel will always integrate the world's highest technologies and manufacturing capabilities, and will continue to contribute to the development of society through activities that align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations — specifically, the target under Goal 11 ("Sustainable Cities and Communities") to "strengthen efforts to protect and safeguard the world's cultural and natural heritage."
