Nippon Steel Corporation
Nippon Steel Corporation (“Nippon Steel”), together with its wholly owned subsidiary Nippon Steel North America, Inc. (“NSNA”), United States Steel Corporation (“U. S. Steel”), and the United Steelworkers (“USW”) have ended all litigation and other disputes between them related to the partnership between Nippon Steel and U. S. Steel, which was consummated on June 18, 2025. This includes the dismissal of the lawsuit that Nippon Steel, NSNA, and U. S. Steel filed against the USW International President David McCall in the Western District of Pennsylvania, and the withdrawal of an unfair labor practice charge filed by the USW against U. S. Steel with the National Labor Relations Board. The parties exchanged no financial consideration in connection with the termination of the litigation, and remain focused on steelmaking and collective bargaining.
Nippon Steel, NSNA, U. S. Steel and Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. (“Cliffs”) have also ended the litigation among them related to the Nippon Steel-U. S. Steel partnership. All claims filed in the lawsuit in the Western District of Pennsylvania, including against Cliffs and Cliffs’ CEO Lourenco Goncalves, have been dismissed.
