NS-SUS, Nippon Steel’s subsidiary in Thailand,wins Thailand's Prime Minister's Industry Award

Jan. 14, 2025

Nippon Steel Corporation

NS-Siam United Steel Co., Ltd. (NS-SUS), a consolidated subsidiary of Nippon Steel Corporation (Nippon Steel) and a manufacturer of cold-rolled steel, hot-dip galvanized and galvannealed steel sheets, and tinplate steel in Thailand, received Thailand's Prime Minister's Industry Award 2024 in the Energy category as a company that has contributed to improving the efficiency of energy use, including in the region and society, through its business activities.

During the award selection process, the following NS-SUS comprehensive energy measures were evaluated: 1) a long-term roadmap that includes energy-saving policies and the use of renewable energy, 2) company-wide energy management and efficiency promotion systems, 3) energy efficiency investments, facility maintenance, and improvement activities, including the use of DX technology, in manufacturing processes and supply chains, and their impacts, 4) education systems and skills transfer, and 5) contributions to local communities.

The award ceremony was held on December 18th at the Prime Minister's Office in Bangkok, and Prime Minister Paetongtarn presented the trophy and other prizes.

Thailand's Prime Minister's Industry Award was established by the Thai government in 1993 to promote and develop domestic industries, and there are 10 categories: Best Industry, Productivity, Safety, Quality, Logistics and Supply Chain, Environmental Conservation, Energy, Manufacturing & Services of the Future, Social Responsibility, and Circular Economy. NS-SUS has won awards in the following six categories: Safety (2000, 2010), Productivity (2005, 2013, 2014), Quality (2006, 2015), Energy (2007), Environmental Conservation (2008), and Logistics and Supply Chain (2009). This is the 11th time that NS-SUS has received an award.

Behind these achievements are NS-SUS's continuous efforts, including company-wide initiatives to improve production, equipment maintenance, and energy utilization technologies, its commitment to TPM and other on-site improvement activities, and the passing on of the technologies and skills cultivated through these activities. NS-SUS will continue and deepen these efforts, and all employees will work together to contribute to the development of the Thai economy and society.
