Nippon Steel Corporation (“Nippon Steel”) announces that today, with
regard to lawsuits it previously filed seeking compensatory damages against Baoshan Iron & Steel Co.,
Ltd. (“Baosteel”), a Chinese steelmaker, Toyota Motor Corporation (“Toyota”), and
Mitsui & Co., Ltd. and Mitsui & Co. Steel Ltd. (collectively “Mitsui”) alleging their
infringement of Nippon Steel’s patents relating to non-oriented electrical steel sheets, Nippon
Steel has terminated such lawsuits against Toyota Motor and Mitsui by waiving claims against them.
Nippon Steel will further strengthen cooperative activities with its business partners, including but not
limited to those of the automotive sector, in various fields such as decarbonization. It will also
continue to firmly protect its intellectual property rights as the fruits of its technological development
and to contribute to society by supplying high-quality steel products worldwide.
With respect to its lawsuits against Baosteel, Nippon Steel will continue to protect its intellectual
property rights by proceeding with the said lawsuits.
