in the new campus of Fudan University School of Management in Shanghai, China

Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation’s (NSSMC) proprietary-design titanium product, TranTixxii™, was selected to be adopted to exterior cladding (roof coverings) of buildings in the new campus of Fudan University School of Management (owner: Fudan University in Yangpu District, Shanghai). A signing ceremony for this material supply was held at the university on January 26, 2018. Adoption of the aesthetic titanium material, TranTixxii™ will be approximately 6,000m2 for the construction area. The material will be fabricated into roof components by a local building material maker, Guangzhou Aloya Renoxbell Aluminum Co., Ltd. (Guangdong Province), and will be installed on buildings’ roofs under instruction of a major general contractor, Greenland Holdings Corporation Limited (Shanghai).

Fudan University of Shanghai, founded in 1901, is one of the most significant and authoritive universities designated by China government with a history of 113 years and have over 40,000 numbers of students at present.
Fudan University’s new campus project with 124,000m2 had been planned in 10 years, expressing the concept of “Symbolic architecture to be presented to the world.

The new buildings, fully designed by Miralles Tagliabue (EMBT), an architectural atrie in Barcelona, Spain, intend to express a compromise of Western and Chinese image. NSSMC’s TranTixxii™ was highly regarded for its performance in design and adoptability for exterior claddings of the buildings, which face a central square, as well as for corridors. In addition to the architectural design performance, titanium’s lightweight, safety, high-corrosion-resistance and the resultant less maintenance burden, and high environmental owing to extremely low metal-ion dissolution, have also been highly evaluated.

The signing ceremony was held on a grand scale and was attended by over 20 people from Fudan University School of Management, including Dean Lu Xiongwen and Vice Dean Qi Xine, and several persons representing NSSMC, including Mr. Murata, Head of NSSMC’s Shanghai Representative Office. At the ceremony, Dean Lu stated that “We are proud of  adoption of NSSMC’s design titanium product TranTixxii™ for our buildings. We look forward to expressing our new architecture using this titanium to the world.”

Through manufacturing and sales of TranTixxii™, NSSMC will add aesthetic quality to the superior features of titanium materials. We will make great effort to support to expand the potential of manufacturing and design, to reduce the life-cycle cost of buildings, preserve the environment and culture, by enhancement of weight reduction and safety. NSSMC looks forward to further adoption of its titanium products for global construction use including those in Japan.
