NSSMC’s U.S. Subsidiary International Crankshaft, Inc.
Celebrates 25th Anniversary of Its Production Start-up

International Crankshaft Inc. (ICI), a subsidiary of Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation (“NSSMC”) which forges steel crankshafts for cars and light trucks in the United States, held a commemoration ceremony celebrating its 25th anniversary of commercial operation on Aug 21, 2017.

Mr. Toru Takegoshi, Head of Railway, Automotive & Machinery Parts Unit of NSSMC, attended the ceremony and was joined by Georgetown Mayor Tom Prather, Scott County Executive Judge George Lusby, and approximately 100 guests.

Mr. Takegoshi expressed his appreciation to the Georgetown community and to the business partners who have supported ICI for 25 years.  He affirmed his commitment to further development of ICI and to its stakeholders, the vision of which is to be achieved by accelerating the NSSMC group’s production of high-performance crankshafts with four production bases all over the world.

ICI opened its first production line in 1992.  Since then, it has been expanding its production capacity in order to meet strong demand for crankshafts in the U.S.  ICI started commercial operation of its fourth forging line in 2015 and it expanded ICI’s overall annual capacity to four million pieces which is nearly equal to that of NSSMC’s Osaka Steel Works in Japan.

The demand for North America’s forged crankshafts is expected to increase due to a shift from imports to local production of finished cars and engines, and a switch from casted crankshafts to forged crankshafts. ICI will continue to fill the demand for crankshafts in the growing U.S. market.
