Commercial production start of the second continuous galvanizing line of AGIS in the UAE
Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation (NSSMC) has a twenty percent stake in Al Ghurair Iron & Steel L.L.C. (AGIS), which is a galvanizing mill in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In October 2016, AGIS began commercial production of the second continuous galvanizing line (CGL).
AGIS is the first company that installed a cold rolling & galvanizing line in the UAE, and they have built a strong customer base in the flat steel market for building & construction in the Middle East, North Africa and West Asia. As the result, AGIS has kept a high level of sales more than 200,000 tons per annum since commencing operation in 2009.
After starting the second CGL, AGIS will scale up their annual production capacity from 200,000 tons to 400,000 tons. NSSMC will make a contribution to the further growth of AGIS and the UAE economy through the stable supply of high quality Hot Rolled Coil (the substrate for hot-dip galvanized steel sheets), which is expected to increase in demand.
