Arrival Ceremony for the First Capesized Vessel from Nacala Port,
Mozambique, at Kimitsu Works
Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation (President Kosei Shindo, “NSSMC”) purchases high quality hard coking coal for cokemaking produced in Mozambique from Vale.
At the end of last year, Nacala Port in Mozambique, which can handle large vessels, started commercial operations. Recently, the largest capesized vessel ever loaded at this port, “SHINING DRAGON” (operated by Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha) made her first shipment and arrived at Kimitsu Works. To celebrate this first arrival, our headquarters and Kimitsu Works staff held a ceremony on the vessel on June 13 together with First Secretary Ilda Raivoso from the Embassy of the Republic of Mozambique in Japan and President Fidel Blanco from Vale Asia.

Additionally, roughly 120,000 tons of rail made by NSSMC are used for Nacala railway, approximately 900km long, that connects the coal mine and Nacala Port.
NSSMC is committed to procuring resources stably including a diversification of suppliers through the purchase of high quality hard coking coal from Mozambique.
