Tinplate Co., Ltd. in China
In January 2016, Guangzhou Pacific Tinplate Co., Ltd. (“PATIN”), which is a joint venture for tin plated (electrolytic tin plated) steel sheet production and sales in China financed by Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation (“NSSMC”) together with Japanese and Chinese partners, has been certified according to the international standards ISO 22000 for food safety management. PATIN is the first company that has obtained the certification in the NSSMC group.
ISO 22000 is international standards that specify the food safety management system (FSMS) requirements that allow for safe food provision to consumers based on the food hygiene management methods using HACCP.* PATIN’s quality control using advanced technologies in the production of tin plated steel sheets for food cans, drink cans, and powdered milk cans, the main products of the company, are highly evaluated to be certified.
In China, the growth of personal consumption is expected to boost the demands for food cans and powdered milk cans. Moreover, consumers’ needs for "safe foods" are growing, making the product control that container and material manufacturers are required to implement stricter with the entire food supply chain considered.
Against this backdrop, taking the opportunity of acquiring ISO 22000 certification, PATIN will strive to reinforce the trust from customers as well as the brand power, strengthening the sales of high-value-added products in the tinplate market in China and overseas.
* HACCP (Abbreviation of “hazard analysis critical control point”):
An international standard on food safety management issued by the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CODEX), which is a joint organization of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) and recommended for use in many countries.
