Regarding Today’s Media Report

Today, certain media has reported that Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation (“NSSMC”) is set to acquire Nisshin Steel Co., Ltd. and turn it into a wholly-owned subsidiary. This information, however, has not been announced by us.

NSSMC has been considering ways to strengthen the alliance with Nisshin Steel, including an option to turn it into a subsidiary. This will be one of the items to be submitted to a meeting of the Board of Directors to be held today. Any resolution, if made, will be promptly disclosed.
