NSSMC Launches the new ABREX® Series Abrasion Resistant Steel Plate and Exhibits it at the New Environmental Exposition
May. 19, 2014
Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation
Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation (“NSSMC”) has launched the new ABREX® Series abrasion resistant
steel plate, by integrating the WEL-TEN AR Series and the WEL-HARD Series from the former Nippon Steel and the
SUMIHARD Series from the former Sumitomo Metals.
Since the business integration in October 2012, both
companies’ technologies have been merged and the abrasion resistant steel plate lineup has expanded to include
the world’s hardest grade product (5-6 times harder than ordinary steel plate) and extra tough products which
have excellent performance in cold climates. Moreover, the number of basic grades has more than doubled. We
can also better accommodate special specifications which are needed by individual customers. On the production
side, it has become possible to produce thin abrasion resistant steel plate by using a new hot rolling line.
Production capacity of thin-type abrasion resistant steel plate has also been improved.
The
ABREX® steel plates are manufactured at and supplied from NSSMC’s four steel works (Nagoya, Kashima, Hirohata,
and Kimitsu). In order to meet customers’ requirement for quick delivery, a network of wholesalers in various
parts of the world has been established and an off-the-shelf delivery system has also been arranged in Japan
and for overseas customers.
The ABREX® series products are widely used for applications in
construction machinery and mining equipment, for civil engineering and resources development, and crushing
machines for recycling of resources. By being used for dump truck beds and excavator buckets, the ABREX® steel
has contributed to post-earthquake reconstruction of the Tohoku region. In the future, it is anticipated to
help meet growing demand for mining development in the world.
Production of the ABREX® steel plate has
increased steadily to exceed 60,000 tons per year and is intended to further increase output.
NSSMC
will exhibit the new brand ABREX® at the New Environmental Exposition (N-EXPO) 2014 Tokyo, which will be held
at the Tokyo Big Sight from Tuesday, May 27th. The ABREX series are eco-friendly products that reduce abrasion
of the material, extend the maintenance cycle of machinery, and reduce the weight of the product where it is
used. We will promote the products at exhibitions in Japan and overseas.
