Mozambique Transportation Minister Visited Kimitsu Works


On February 5, Paulo Francisco Zucula, Minister of Transport and Communication of Mozambique, visited Kimitsu Works of Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation (NSSMC). In Mozambique, NSSMC is currently pushing forward the “Revuboe coking coal project(*),” envisaged as a major-scale high-potential supply source of high quality coking coal. For a successful implementation of this project, the improvement of railroads, ports and other infrastructures is a vitally important element. The minister responsible for such infrastructures inspected one of our mainstay steelworks, and had an understanding about the steel industry and coal use deepened.


(*)Outline of the Revuboe coking coal project.
The project is to produce high quality coking coal in the Tete Province of Mozambique. Annual output is planned to be 5 million tons, while the estimated reserve is 1,070 million tons. NSSMC and Nippon Steel Trading Co., Ltd. hold a 33.3% interest. The project is currently applying to acquire mining rights.
