Our "small diameter wire rods" are rod products with a diameter of 5.0mm or less, and their high-volume production was made possible by our proprietary technologies.
By using these products, drastic reductions in many secondary processes can be realized, and the resulting benefits for customers will be fully recognized particularly in manufacturing fine-drawn wire. These products, applicable to wide-ranging steel types including wire rods for steel cord, are supplied from East Nippon Works Kamaishi area and East Nippon Works Kimitsu area to customers in Japan and all around the world.
At East Nippon Works Kamaishi area, which has various types of product test equipment such as wire drawing machines and heat treaters, customer support services are provided to satisfy the needs of individual users such as pre-shipment material evaluation.

Benefits for customers
Low cost
Possible elimination of patenting and wire drawing processes
Evaluation data (detailed descriptions about the "reasons behind the benefits")
Improved cooling effect due to smaller wire rod diameters
- Improved cooling effect during wire rod rolling → homogeneous microstructure, → grain refinement
- Improved cooling effect during wire drawing → aging control, cementite separation control

Microstructure cross-sections (examples of 82C)

Example: Critical wire drawing vs. carbon content
Improved wire drawability due to enhanced cooling effect

- Judgment criteria for critical wire drawing: (1) drawing rate ≥35%, (2) twisting value ≥25% (l=100d), (3) unwinding test ≥90% success rate (after 8 automatic windings)
