Current conditions of the development and practical application of wire rods for bridge cable use that have the highest level of strength worldwide.
NSSMC has been developing high-strength wire rods for bridge cables as part of a development enhancement project of a high-end product (XSTEELIA™) under the SteeLinC™ brand of the Bar and Wire Rod Unit, and has already succeeded in putting the 2.0-GPa-strength wire rods on the market and putting the 1.9-GPa-strength wire rods to practical use, with both currently achieving the highest level of strength worldwide.

1．Current conditions of development and practical application
NSSMC has been developing strength-enhanced wire rods, all of which are based on high-silicon steel developed in-house, in order to satisfy customer needs for the reduction of construction costs and periods in the construction of bridges, which are recently becoming larger and longer. NSSMC has already put wire rods on the market with strength levels of up to 2.0 GPa.
2．Actual cases of the use of NSSMC products with the highest level of strength worldwide
（1）Project name: Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge
A large-scale project for constructing a highway that connects Hong Kong to Macau; the total length is approximately 36 km (approximately 30 km in China and approximately 6 km in Hong Kong). The bridge is 21.8 km long, and the cable-stayed portion is 1.5 km.
Our high-strength mono-strand cables were used for the 1.2 km-portion of (1) Jiang Hai Bridge (774 m-length cable-stayed bridge with one cable-stayed plane and three towers) and for the (2) Qing Zhou Bridge (458 m-length cable-stayed bridge with two cable-stayed plane and two towers).
The total construction period of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge is scheduled from October 2010 to the end of 2016, in which the construction of the bridge portion started in May 2011.
