[Condensed version]

The challenge that we, the Sumitomo Metals Group, are facing in the current difficult economic environment is to create value and profit from our investment projects. This is how we will grow in a sustained way. This is also how we will achieve our medium-term targets.

I would like to emphasize three issues that I consider to be very important for the Sumitomo Metals Group this year.

1. Firstly, I would like us all to be real professionals in our respective field. We have pride and passion in our jobs that have made us among the best in the world. Let’s try our best to beat all the competition in the world.

2. Secondly, we will strengthen our production bases in Japan and build overseas production bases. The close cooperation between our colleagues located in Japan and overseas is essential to the success of every one of overseas projects. Our technological strength and profitability will depend on the cooperation between production bases in Japan and overseas.

3. The last but most important issue is safety and compliance. We must act up to our motto: “We keep the rules that will protect us and our loved ones.”
