Construction of a Hot-dip Galvanizing Plant and Establishment of a Manufacture & Sale Company in Thailand

Nippon Steel Corporation (President: Shoji Muneoka, hereinafter “Nippon Steel”) has decided to build a hot-dip galvanizing plant and to establish a new company for the manufacture and sale of hot-dip galvanized and galvannealed steel sheets primarily for automotive use in Thailand.

The new company is expected to build a hot-dip galvanizing plant in Rayong Province, Thailand, which is equivalent to the state-of-the-art equipment now in operation at Nippon Steel’s steelworks in Japan. Construction of the facility would require a total investment of approximately US$300 million and is expected to commence production of high-grade and high-quality galvanized and galvannealed steel sheets, including automotive outer-panel and high-strength steel, in 2013.

The Thai steel market is a growing and important market for Nippon Steel, and continued growth is anticipated in the future. Through this new company, Nippon Steel intends to provide steel products appropriately corresponding to customers’ needs, including for high-grade automotive steel sheets.
