To achieve greater competitiveness regarding pig iron and steel manufacture, we decided to reline and enlarge the Kimitsu No. 2 blast furnace and have been making preparations for the start of such relining, which is set to take place in the middle of January 2012. Currently, in order to respond to changes taking place in the global steel demand structure, such as by making our production setup more efficient and by matching the actual state of requirements, we have decided to blow out this furnace earlier than planned, in early December of this year.

The relining itself starts in the middle of January next year, as initially scheduled.

Reference: Outline of the relining project
Inner volume: Approx. 4,500 m3 (existing volume: 3,273 m3)
