Nippon Steel extends heartfelt sympathy and deepest condolences to the people who have suffered from Tohoku Pacific Earthquake and sincerely hopes for their earliest recovery. We are also grateful for the sympathy extended to us since the occurrence of the earthquake.

The following are effects of the earthquake on Nippon Steel and its countermeasures taken as of March 13, 2011.

[Kamaishi Steelworks]
・Our utmost concern has been the safety of all the employees and their families of Nippon Steel and its group companies and related companies. We are continuing to try to confirm their safety.
・Some facilities of Kamaishi Steelworks were inundated by Tsunami and have been out of operation.
・The port facilities of Kamaishi Steelworks have been damaged and recovery efforts are now being taken.
・Until the full recovery of Kamaishi Steelworks, we intend to continue to supply steel products to our customers through production at other steelworks and Nippon Steel group companies.

[Kimitsu Steelworks]
・Kimitsu Works has resumed the blast-furnace operation which was temporarily suspended.
・Following the restart of the iron and steel making processes, Kimitsu Steelworks is resuming operation of rolling processes.

[Muroran Steelworks]
・Muroran Steelworks has not sustained severe damage to its facilities.

[All the steelworks except Kamaishi]
・All the steelworks have suspended product shipment because of Tsunami. Since the Tsunami warning was lifted by the Japanese government, all the steelworks except Kamaishi are resuming their shipments.

Nippon Steel and its group companies intend to focus our resources on the reconstruction of our regional communities in cooperation with local governments.
