NSSMC’s Titanium Material is Adopted for the External Claddings and Roofs of
Museums in Wuhu City and Ningbo City, China

ALPOLICTR/fr*1, a titanium composite panel (TCM) made by Mitsubishi Plastics, Inc., which uses titanium from Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation (NSSMC), has been adopted for the Wuhu Urban Planning Exhibition Centre and Museum in Wuhu City, China. This follows the adoption of the material for the Ningbo Seaport Museum in 2014. This is the most recent evidence of NSSMC’s promotion of greater application and expansion of usage of its titanium materials for the external claddings and roofs of the buildings.

NSSMC’s titanium materials have been used in seven architectural projects in China, including the above two. The others include the National Grand Theatre of China in Beijing, as the world renowned architect Paul Andreu highly evaluated the TCM, as well as the Hangzhou Grand Theatre and the Hefei Poly Grand Theatre.

The recent adoption of the material for the external claddings and roofs of the Museum buildings is attributable to NSSMC’s development of the titanium material so as to provide it with an excellent aesthetic quality through its tastefully subdued silver color, which is less subject to discoloration, and the TCM’s economic merits, on top of its track record of applications for many buildings in China.

NSSMC has supplied titanium building materials the well-known Kannon Temple (Sensoji) in Tokyo’s Asakusa district, and over 600 other buildings in Japan and overseas where utilizing its technological capabilities has verified the material’s value. Going forward, we will continue to promote the material and work at expanding its adoption for the external claddings and roof coverings of various types of building.

*1 ALPOLIC®/fr is a Titanium Composite Material (TCM) with titanium sheet on the top and the back. This composite panel is lightweight compared to a titanium non-composite material of the same rigidity. As the TCM has obtained fire-resistance approval, it can be used for the external claddings and roof coverings of buildings.
