The Merger between Nittetsu Shinko Shearing and Shearing Kozyo


Nittetsu Shinko Shearing Corporation (President: Hiroyuki Asano, “NSS”) and Shearing Kozyo, Ltd. (President: Akihiko Nagayoshi, “SK”), two consolidated subsidiaries of Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation, reaching basic agreement in January this year and following our study team’s consultations, have signed the merger agreement, and, given approval of their respective general shareholders’ meetings, are now scheduled to start as “Nittetsu Sumikin Shinko Shearing Co., Ltd.”, effective April 1 of this year.

The new company’s head office and its Osaka Plant shall be located at the present “Nittetsu Shinko Shearing” (6-37, Tsuneyoshi 2-chome, Konohana-ku, Osaka Prefecture), and the present “Shearing Kozyo” (36-1, Chikkoshinmachi 3-cho, Nishi-ku, Sakai City) shall be the Sakai Shearing Plant, with the aim of structuring an optimum production and operation setup and achieving competitive toughness in cost, delivery term and others at both plants. In the aspects of quality and customer services also, the two merging companies’ long-accumulated steel-fabricating technologies and know-how, when brought together to complement, will bring out added strengths and improvements.

Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation and Kobe Steel, Ltd., viewing this new company as their main base for fusion-cutting of plates in the Kansai region, aim at realizing a tough and viable plate-cutting business.
