Nippon Steel Corporation
SMI Amtek Crankshaft (SMAC), a manufacturer and sales company of forged crankshafts in
Haryana, India for the Nippon Steel Corporation (Nippon Steel), received three awards for fiscal year
2021—the Best Quality Supplier Award, the Zero Defect Supplies Award, and the Best Target Achieved
Supplier in Delivery—from Toyota Industries Engine India Pvt. Ltd. (TIEI), a subsidiary that
manufactures engines for Toyota vehicles in India for Toyota Industries Corporation.
In addition to receiving the Delivery award for six consecutive years, the company also received Best
Quality and Zero Defect awards for the first time. These three awards were given as high praise to the
company's stable, continuous supply of high-quality products, along with its contribution towards further
improvement and enhancement of quality for global models.
As India's population continues to grow, its automotive market is also expected to expand, centered around
popular SUV models. Although electric vehicles are a strong trend within the global automobile industry,
engine vehicles, including hybrid cars, are still indispensable within India when considering elements
such as power supply and infrastructure development, and the demand for crankshafts is believed to
continue in the future. SMAC will continue to respond to the various needs of automobile manufacturers
with their high-quality and stable supply of products.
Nippon Steel operates its crankshaft business at four global business sites in Japan, the U.S., China, and
India. The business has established 12 million supply systems, obtaining a market share of more than 10%.
The company will continue to make most of its world-leading materials and engineering strengths to achieve
ecologically friendly, highly efficient internal combustion engines with low fuel consumption through the
provision of lightweight and high-strength crankshafts.
